Hi, first post here, hopefully of first of many.

I bought my Strat about 6 years ago, after never wanting one, despite my hero being the Chili Pepper's John Frusciante.

I played one in a shop on a whim, and loved it. I shopped round every guitar shop in a 50 mile radius playing every strat in every shop, and none sounded and played as well as the first.

So I bought it, put some Texas Specials in there, and have a lifetime keeper. Its easily the best of all 8 guitars I own.

The best part is; when I took off the neck to see the date stamp, it turns out it (well the neck anyway) was made on December 25th, 1992. What kind of person is still making guitars on Christmas Day??

Anyway, must stop waffling. My question is, what kind of Strat is it? Ive been on the websites that tell me what all the different Strats are, but Ive no idea about mine. Im gonna assume its either a Standard, American, or Highway One, but how do I tell which it is?

Image

On the lowest tone pot, it meets resistance at 5, and from 5 to 10 there is a very small increase in volume. From reading about modern Strats, a lot have a mid boost or some such on this pot, but mine doesnt seem to do anything besides slight volume. Dunno if this helps or not...

Anyone who can help will receive my everlasting gratitude :-D

i can tell you it's not a highway one - they weren't being made at the time.

look on the headstock- if it says made in mexico it's an mexican standard.

if it says made in america it's most likely a american series.

how much did you pay for it? that would also help for figuring it out.

Sorry, I should have thought to mention that, its made in the USA.

I wasnt aware about the Highways not being around then, so that pretty much makes it Standard or American. On the Fender website listing, the biggest difference between the two is body wood, and I have no idea how to tell that!

If it says American on the headstock then it is an American standard Strat. Just the regular old entry level model. Which are more expensive than the Standard. Also your hardware should be a little higher quality since it is american. Typically a plain old standard is made in mexico. So if it says american on it, it should be the american standard model!

If it was made in 1992 and if the pick up cavity is a big rectangle (The swimming pool), then it’s an American Standard. The American Series is the replacement for the American Standard and has a few differences that make it a different model.

stainless steel bridge saddles, 2 pivot post bridge, 22 frets, TBX
