I agree 100% with Ceri, That chiseled out spot was doing nothing without a wedge in there . Other wise if the screws in the chiseled area were pulled tight the other two at the heel would have to have been kept loose enough as to leave a gap at the heel. It sure would be noticable.

It's very strange, isn't it?

By the way, cvilleira, do you have any tips for sanding in the corners of the neck pocket? A Dremel is far too fast even on the lowest setting. The tiniest slip and the work is ruined.

I cooked myself up a little gizmo made from an old electric toothbrush with a tiny cushioned disc of sandpaper on the head - but it's tedious work!

When ever I need to do something very slight in the coner of the neck pocket I just scrap or cut it down with a xacto knife. I have an Xacto craft set that I bought for like 60.00 that has gouges ,blade and knives it even has a small block sander..

Yeah, I do that too. Or get in there with the tip of a small chisel, or a scraper.

But sometimes there is just a bit of lacquer that you want to smooth ever so slightly. I find a blade sometimes cracks it, especially that little curved buildup you get in the corner where the floor joins the side of the pocket, which might be enough to stop the heel getting a really snug fit. Sometimes the tip of a blade breaks it up and causes more harm than good.

I used to find myself prodding away at it with folded bits of sandpaper, or wrapping the paper round a little stick or something. Really tricky right in the corner.

Then I cut the bristles off an electric toothbrush head, stuck a pad of neoprene on instead and then you can mount a grade of sandpaper of your choice on there with a tiny bit of double sided tape. It's kinda slow work, but it can give a good result with patience. A tiny orbital sander.

'Specially in this situation, if Mr Hadlee decides to go the filler route: he's gonna want to make as smooth a floor to his pocket as he can - or he might as well not have bothered.

I often find I want the Dremel to go at about a tenth of it's slowest speed - do you know what I mean?

Cheers - C
