Which guitarist do you love who does not play a strat, but should? I would be excited to see Brian Setzer wail on a strat just once. I would also dig seeeing Derek Trucks play slide on a strat?

Who else??

Frank Marino should definitely be playing a Strat. I wish that Joe Bonamassa would go back to Strats and given that my favorite Metallica stuff was recorded with a vintage Strat I would like to see Kirk playing one full time.

I love Metallica and Fender strats, but to say they should be playing strats...I don't know. Maybe strats with humbuckers, but I am pretty sure there is a reason they don't play them. Kirk used them for his leads early, because it was the only decent guitar he had. But make no mistake 90% of the guitar sounds coming from that band are Hetfeilds, and they sounded very Gibson-Marshall early on. That first album was the typical Gibson through a cranked Marshall tone(articulate and crunchy), which over time gave way to ESP's to mesa's (even fatter and more growling growning with a bit less high end)

On the black album and later they used a variety of equipment in the studio, and stuck with their bread and butter live....mesa's and ESP's.

The part of their tone that I like is the cranked superoverdriven and fat marshall distortion. I don't think a strat really fits that description. Their tone on MOP is perfect to me

I know that no one out there will agree with this but Load and ReLoad are my favorite Metallica albums and they used vintage Strats heavily on those.

That's cool, but most would say those are the worse albums ever made by them, and it all went even further south on St. Anger, which made them fire their producer (Bob Rock) and go into another direction. Even they consider MOP to be their crowning achievement, and I agree. That is not due to the guitars they played though, it was due to the songs they were playing.

Either way, the Metallica fan base is divided these days. I still think their accomplishments are unequalled

Johnny Winter - I'd like to see what he'd do with a Strat.

Good one! I saw him last year and his guitarist Paul Nelson played a black Strat... Very good player- Johnny is a legend and forever will be but I enjoyed Paul's playing more.

Yea, unfortunately he does not perform as he used to. I only see him playing sitting down nowadays.

Glad he's still with us and overcame heroin though.
