I am going to try to get to North Dakota next year if I can swing it. Go for
a Elk or a Pronghorn, looking like 4500.00 I would like to go back to Manitoba but that was serious roughing it.

WOW CV! What I could buy with that! I can hunt behind my property if I wanted to! I would like to take a week or two trip though! 8)

It all depends on My employment situation at the time , things are a little tighter now days.

Gotta say this.

This weekend whilst escorting relatives around the st georges day festivities i happened across a favourite (big) guitar shop that i always used to use. I tried a couple of highways in there and was quite unimpressed. I really cant say that they stand up to a standard, the fretends and nut on both that i tried were horrible. Dunno if thats usuall with em i gave up on em after two. I have to say they didnt matchup to most mexican standards that ive played over the years never mind the american standards.

nik you have to be kidding. the ones i have (2007's) have superior tone
over the american standards. hard rock/classic rock/jazz the
highway one does it all thats more than i can say for the
american standards.

Like i've always said theres good and bad in all models. I just happened across two that had the same flaws. The shop is a good'un but in my experience shops in the UK dont want to flie fret ends. People there tend to look for a lacquer covering over them and reject guitars that aren't as per factory. The nut was cut way too low on both something i've noticed on a good few of fenders guitars recently.

Nothing that cant be sorted in well under half hour but i just dont like it on new guitars.

I agree with Big Jay and most of the other Fourm members, For Rock the Highway One but if your into the Blues Jimmie Vaughan. Both great Guitars.

Any guitar can be used for any music. Especially Strats since they are more versatile than anything else.

and the highway one is one of the most tone versatile strats
period. wether you like them or no it doesnt change the fact
that the highway one is a superior tone monster. the JV strat
or the american standard strat doesnt even come close what
the highway one can do or provide. and they are made in the USA!

I wasn't aware that the Hwy One had a computer chip in it that offered tone selections:

A. Make me sound like Jimi Hendrix
B. Make me sound like Yngwie Malmsteen
C. Make me sound like Stevie Ray Vaughn
D. Make me sound like Jeff Beck
E. Make me sound like Ritchie Blackmore

I wasn't aware.

Hey StratHeads-

Nice to see Ole Alwaysstrat piping in. In fact...I am taking his advise and saving up for a HWY One SSS. I tried one out and really really liked the tone- It's true Strat but it is a little different...particularly in the high end and will sound great with my bands Classic Blues Rock style. My current Strat has Texas Specials (Which I truly Love) but the Hwy One has a sound better suited for the likes of "Free" "Spirit" and "Bad Company" Stuff.

I like the JV....but the Tex-Mex pickups have a little too much "Bite" for my taste. Very Old School Electric Blues (Which is Jimmie's Style). If I was doing Jimmy Reed or early Buddy Guy ...I would love to use the JV for that tone. JV is such an awesome player of that style of blues- At times I feel he goes unnoticed.

I have to throw my vote out for the JV Strat. When I bought mine, I played it against several guitars in that price range, even the Highway 1. The Highway 1 I played had a very pale neck and just didn't feel right. Now, don't get me wrong, it was a very nice guitar, my not my choice. I loved the V neck and all the features of the JV Strat better. So, I am like a few people here, go try both and see which one fits you better. Don't order one without playing one.

Yeah some of those very pale, bleached finishes that Fender uses on some of their necks are gross. I prefer the vintage, aged, amber tint myself.

Well. I don't know the history with you two but I don't like things to get out of whack. You know what I mean. I would choose the H.O. over the J.V. myself but everyone has different reasons for liking what they like. They are all good Fenders. I'm doing good and hope you are too! :)

Hey Folks-

Never a dull debate when Alwaysstrat comes chiming in-

I guess what I would like to ask (and this is not a challenge or the start of an argument) is what is it in the components and all that make the HWY One so superior? I know you like these guitars Always...and you are very passionate about it...But I am wondering if you could give me your professional opinion as to WHY the HWY One is so superior. You are the only Pro I know on this site and I am looking for a professional opinion.
