Hi,

I send this message from France, I'm french and I have a very important question.

here it is:

I bought a Fender MK Signature in December 2006. I dind't played it so much, I bought it new in a french shop, but I've realised that my MK is not as usual as the other MK.

Mine have a 3 way switch instead of the usual 5 ways and also she have an Original 57'/62' pickups set instead of the usual Texas Special Set.

Here is my question: Why my MK's strat is differente ? and am I the only one on earth with that kind of MK ?

:D

Hi Nicobouds, welcome to the Forum.

As you say, the current specs for the Mark Knopfler Strat on this website list Texas Specials and a five-way switch.

And I have just been and looked at an old Fender catalog from 2006 when you bought yours and that also lists it as having Texas Specials and a five-way switch.

So the specifications have not changed, at least in the last three years.

I don't know why yours is different. Not very helpful, eh? Sorry...

Cheers - C

Maybe a custom order that wasnt bought or returned to fender and later shipped to another shop. Perhaps if you post the serial number that nice man who works for fender Mr Rob Schwarz could check it out. If he's too busy (please respect he's not here to fetch data on our guitars) perhaps email customer services with your enquiry.

I bought it new. It's not a second hand.

Here is the serial : SE03411.

The date on the neck is October 2006, so it's not one of the earlier model

I looked into this and this site says SE (signature edition) started in 88 with the prefix SE8
Quote:
SE(XXXXXX)
SN(XXXXXX)
SZ(XXXXXX)
Signature Series Instruments
SE8(XXXXX)-1988, SE9(XXXXX)-1989
SN0(XXXXX)-'90, SN1(XXXXX)-'90, SN2(XXXXX)-'92, etc.
SZ0(XXXXX)-2000, SZ1(XXXXX)-2001, SZ2(XXXXX)-2002, etc

Notice the 2000 serials follow the regular SZ0, SZ1, SZ2 the same way deluxes do with DZ0, DZ1, DZ2.
http://www.fender.com/support/usa_instruments.php

The guitar dater site gives this report on the serial number
Quote:
Guitar Info

Serial number unrecognized

Please ensure that you selected a Country of Manufacture. If you are still having difficulties please contact the webmaster.

http://www.guitardaterproject.org/fender.aspx

Its either customshop or a forgery based on those reports.

This is an US Strat, none of them come from Japan

It can't be some TS pickups, look at the top of each plot, they have the particularity of 57'/62' pickups.

Of course it's an MK, this hot rod red exist just for the MK, and the neck is also an MK neck (it's written on it !)

I also bought it in a music shop in France, I said it again it's not a second hand.

we can also see on the potar the date "0636" 36th week in 2006

Looks like your only option is to contact customer services. Its clearly not customshop or a forgery. The serial number is unusuall to say the least. It doesnt follow the normal dating system.

No one is saying its 2ndhand the whole customshop thing about ordering one offs that then dont meet the buyers requirements dont render a guitar 2nd hand as its never been paid for. Its clearly not customshop no Coa and the figuring of the maple isnt detailed enough.

why did you said the serial is unusuall ?

What's wrong with the serial ? what it should be for a 2006 Strat ?
