I'm buying myself a guitar and I have two options with the same price, only diference is built year:

Strat, Made in Mexico


1. 2003

2. 2007

what should I get & why??

Do You think, that they've improved sound quality over the years, I wasn't able to try them out, but I've heard from a friend that 2007 have lower sound quality! Could that be true?!

In 2006 they did uppgrade the MIM standards, so i would go for the '07 one.

Flash,

Play both and see which one you like best. If I were you that would be the one I get. Why...In the end it is how well you and your guitar play together that makes it enjoyable. Don't get caught up with one being newer than the other.

2003, 2007 the age difference isnt big enough that it should be a deciding factor. Like mentioned above, get the one that looks better to you and more importantly the one that feels the best to play.

Like some others have said, test them both out & go for the one that feels right , if I had been a regular to this forum before I got mine a couple of years back my head would have been spinning all ways, only advice I'd give is, go look, feel & play .........bog standard strats , they look nice,they feel nice, and best of all they sound just like A...............Stratocaster
Some of those VG buyers must be absolutly Livid, although in the long run they'll prob get a tidy sum for them, if only they'd waited eh !!

Between those years, the only real difference is the "2006+ upgrades" which includes the larger trem block, fully shielded cavity, gig bag, and med jumbo frets. So between the two purely on features, the '07 would be preferred. HOWEVER, this is not a huge differentiation. So - as per everyone else's comments - you need to play both to compare. The older one may very well play better, have a more desirable finish to you, or may be in better condition. But if you get the '03, just remember to pick up an '06+ larger tremblock for it (they are plug and play, and real cheap - I got a used one for my '04 for $12 off eBay). Good luck.
