I don't think it's ever been a secret. Companies like Fender and Gibson make their bones through their reputations for quality. Not through some sort of secret recipe.

Yes, I just want to agree with that. A very nice and sensible post, Twelvebar.

Of all the maple v rosewood threads we've had this one just keeps on running - and turning up good new contributions. My theory on that is that this thread began with one of the better versions of the A/B test that we've come across, so got things off to a grown up start.

Mike just confirmed many things. Like he said its the sum total of all aspects. It also shows how even the type of the peg head can effect some change because of the change in mass and shape. Also what I have always told people Ash is all over the board when it comes to sound.
