I realize this may belong in the squire section, but as Im comparing this guitar to an american fender, i wanted to post here.

Just picked one off the shelf in the local music store today for a look see.
Its in a word..awesome.

It blows the socks of any of the MIM i played there today. really nice setup, nice neck, nice weight. real quality feel.

and all 200 quid cheaper than the MIM strat std.

Any fender owners own one of these? if so, you will have had more time to make judgement on this guitar, can you please let me know your thoughts.

From the 10 mins i played around with it i found it a delight, and as i need another guitar for alternate tunings, im seriously considering one.

Yeah I just bought one. I compared it against the MIM Models and I too believe it is a much better deal for the money. RK

Hi schmintan: I haven't handled one yet, but I've heard nothing but good of the Classic Vibe Squiers. Glowing reviews in the press, too.

Let us know if you go for it...

Cheers - C

They are awesome guitars. They just feel right and have a great tone. When you pick one up and play one it's just hard to understand how a guitar this good can cost so little. I say get one.

Sounds great - I haven't looked into these but now I might. One of my favourite players, Steve Rothery from Marillion, used a Squier with EMGs as his main guitar for a lot of their classics.
What do you like best about it?

Hi schmintan,

I had mine for allmost 9 months (it is 50s Vibe maple board and alnico 3) and it is awesome. Vintage ping tuners hold the tuning well, however I don't use the whammy. Alnico 3 pickups (low output) shine on clean. There is a contraversy that in the earlier versions manufacturing folks screwed up and installed alnico 3 in the 60s version and alnico 5 in 50's. Mine for instance has type "STA 5 VS" label on the pickups. But the tone tells me it is more of the alnico 3.

Nothing wrong with the Squire. I have one with a scalloped fretboard that is set up better than my standard strat. It rocks
