Hello My Fellow Strat-heads,

I had a bad case of G.A.S. today and went looking for a new guitar. I played a few Fender MIM Standard models and several Squire models. I ended up buying a Squire Classic Vibe '60's. What a surprise to me.

Tone wise it blew the MIM models out of the water. It plays like a dream. I have to admit that over the last couple years I was a little disappointed with Squire, but this Classic Vibe series is awesome.

What can I say, it sounds almost as good as my HWY 1 Strat, I got rid (traded) my ESP LTD to get it, but it was well worth it. (I haven't played the LTD in a while any ways). Of course my HWY 1 is still my #1 guitar, but I now have another that is almost as hot as it is. Maybe I won't wear it out so fast.

I was suprised that this model has an Alder body and AlNiCo 5 PUPs. Mine is the 3 tone sunburst. If you ever have a chance to play one, I think you will be pleasantly surprised. I will post pics as soon as I can. Here is a link to the specs.

A few weeks ago I bought myself a Classic Vibe 60s too. Man the quality just blew me away. The quality of guitar you get for the money just can't be beat. I think anyone in the market for a new Strat should at least try one out at the store. I can guarantee you will be impressed with the Classic Vibe series. And you may even save a little cash to boot. Are they better than a MIM Strat? I can't say. MIM Strats are fine guitars. What I can say is don't count these new Squiers out when trying out guitars. :)

Here are the Pics. Sorry so late, but I was playing both guitars earlier. This Squire Classic Vibe really puts Fender MIM's to shame. It is almost as good as my Highway 1. The tone is very simular, but I still like the neck better on the HWY 1. The Squire is a lot lighter too. It is a really good back-up guitar. Love the vintage tunners on it. I replaced the strings last night and found that it was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. Thank goodness to this Forum so I knew the correct way to string it up. (It was posted a while back.)

I like the Classic Vibes and ther nice guitars for the money.
I can't say they are better then MIM Strats though which are also nice guitars.
Do people think fender would sell a guitar for 299.00 that is better then a guitar that they are trying to sell for 549.00? Why undercut yourself in business, build and sell the best you can in given price ranges. You have to have a difference built into the higher cost one or you are not going to sell it.
Both of these guitars are well built and worth owning but there are differences. I guess i just look at a lot of these things from the business end and not just personal feelings.

They are not undercutting their business.

Some who wants a Fender will buy an Am Fender. if they cant afford that they will buy a MIM as its still branded a Fender, and thus in their eyes outranks a lowly Squier.

The squier could outperform the MIM but as its branded Squier, most folks will dismiss it outright. There are tons of folks in the world like this. its how most companies make their business.

You think you will ever see a company director driving a skoda? they will be in an Audi, but a high end skoda have the same frame, chassis, components, engine etc as a high end audi, but it looks a little different, and has a skoda badge so therefore is inferior in people's heads.

Little do they know that a high end skoda, along with being 20-30K (at least) cheaper than the audi, has everything exactly the same, and even if you bring it to a garrage to be serviced, audi parts ( that also go into volksvagen) will go into the skoda.

Thats just another example, and there are tons out there. you think it costs much more to make a MIM over a squier? i doubt it.

Congratulations, it looks great! I imagine when I see the red one in the store, I'll be getting one too.

First off, I get the whole Squier thing. I have a Squier Vintage Modified Thinline Tele that is a great instrument. However, I can give you at least one definite difference between the Squier and the Fender MIM: the finish. The finishes on the Fenders are much thicker, with noticably more layers of finish and clearcoat.

Congrats on the new CV. I agree that they are great gits ... in fact, all of the Squier CVs and Vintage Modifieds are tremendous.
