I'd like opinions on changing my black poly strat to black nitro. There is a guy I found who will do the change for $140. Sounds pretty good to me. And I am not trying to strive for some kind of tone transformation. The guitar already sounds great. I am just not very fond of thick poly high gloss finishes. So...the questions are 1) is this a fair price, and 2) would black satin nitro be your choice over black gloss nitro? FYI, the guitar is a Classic Series 50's strat with a non-standard 4 ply tortoise pickguard.

Thanks people. I always value your advice.

If it sounds good I would leave it alone. And 140. is a low price to strip and refinish.

+1 there are a lot of people who believe that they can do nitro finishes but frankly barely any of them can.

A custom guitar shop that I frequent ran into a similar offer from a guy and it turned out that the bodies would check within a month, and crack over the winter.

I'd stay with the poly for now, and later get another guitar from the factory with nitro.
