I want try .11s on my strat which is set up for .12s. The nut is filed for .12s, so it may be a little bit too big for .11s. What effect will that have on the action? Will I have tuning problems? I'd rather hear from someone who's done something similar than to waste a pack of strings.

One gauge lower isn't really a big deal but you may have to adjust the intonation and possibly the truss rod, and the adjustments you have to make will be very minimal.

If you are not comfortable with making these adjustments yourself then bring it to a tech, but that's probably not necessary. I switch around between 10 and 11 gauge and I don't have to do any adjustments but I check intonation anyways, just in case.

OK, thanks. I think I'm going to try it and see what happens.
