you guys had no trouble with the different string and screw spacing for yoru tremolos?!

:(

I used the wilkinson fit anything system with 5 oval screw holes and one circular one (5+1) to get round the problem of string/screw spacing. The trem came with a massive steel block, the callahams in the toolbox now.

I think the wood is about the only thing stock on this 1991 MIM Strat of mine. It's my beater axe, and always laying around, so it's been the target of many mods :

First post here. Great forum, been comming here awaile and have learned alot, and have now started to piece my own strat together. Wanted Fender Natural ash body (body from MF Scratch-And-Dent sale, MIM Natural Ash FSR and is perfect, not a blemish on her, married to a mint condition "Classic Player '60's" 12 inch radius neck.) This is simply a great guitar, the 12 radius neck is so great looking and playablility is exactly what I was striving for, it's now my favorite. I'm so happpy I went in this direction of piecing together my choices to get exactly what I want with respect to body color and neck features. The Gotoh vintage locking Tuners work really well. Soooo here she is, just done this week, along with her sister, 2003 AM.Std from the House of Fender.

I guess I do have an upgraded MIM. Actually, I upgraded two MIM Strats into a doubleneck. "Borrowed" their necks and slapped them onto a doubleneck body, and voila!

I've said before that I believe that the best part of a Squier is its neck. Well, I guess I'd say the same thing about the MIM's. Their necks (with perhaps a little more attention to the nut and frets, but the same thing can be said about any MIA guitar too) are as good as any.

The callaham is redundant rather than worse. the sustain offered by the wilkinson trem (that cost half of what the callaham block costs) is equally as long and smooth.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
i've been ripping my brains out as to which one to get.

You need one of these.
http://cgi.ebay.com/Wilkinson-5-1-Hole-Strat-Tremolo-Chrome-Steel-Block-NEW_W0QQitemZ300304256683QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGuitar_Accessories?hash=item300304256683&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262

You can see the oval holes that enable the system to fit to pretty much any strat.

I just put the Fender Hot Noiseless pickups into my 2008 MIM this morning. I got a pre-wired pickguard with the Eric Clapton switching, a treble bleed circuit, and a push/pull cutoff for the neck pickup. I'm quite impressed with the sound. My guitar was a used HSS version I picked up cheap, so the cost of the upgrades didn't break the bank. I also added some locking tuners and a Wilkinson tremolo, so we shall see how all that works out over time.

I was thinking Callahams, but I'm a little confused with this verbage in the discription of the Wilkinson 5+1 Hole Strat Tremelo:

"This bridge has 2 1/8" string spacing on the block and saddles. The hole spacing on the front is closer to 2 3/16". If you were to try this bridge on a MIM Fender or other guitar with 2 1/8" hole spacing, you may need to relocate the the traditional-sized hole to accomodate the remaing 5 and position the bridge correctly (Don't have one so I can't say for sure). This will drop right in on a 2 3/16" spaced US Fender."

My question is "Does this trem/block assembly fit modern MIM strats?"

i don't see why not... hopefully it does since mine's comming already! mim standards have 2 1/16" string and screw spacing, so those calculations seem a bit off for me.

The ebay sellers description is wrong. Ive never encountered a 6point trem that suffers post binding issues. The true reason for the elongated holes is so the trem fits anything from squire to MIA. I didnt post the link trying to say 'buy it here'. Just to provide some insight to the system that i installed hassle free on a MIM.
