The spec sheet for my Standard Strat calls for 9's....but I'd like to go to 10's seeing as how thicker strings are often recommended for better tone? Is this an easy switch for the guitar, or do I have to worry about the nut slots being too small and neck tension?

Thanks much in advance! This forum is fabulous help!!

I routinely use 10s (tone is the issue) and I've had no problem with either the MIM Strat I had a few years back or the AmStd 2004 I have now. Goiing to 10s is fairly standard from anything I've ever read.

I asked the guitar tech at the time I did it and he said there'd be no problem. So other than checking the intonation, you should be good.

Hello Tutorman101,

Go for 10's work up to 11's even 12's
I like the preformance I get from heavier strings
even try flatwounds and various metals.
No need to rush the whole thing just something
to consider from time to time. Bear in mnd after
each string change resetting up you guitar is to
be expected, for me thats part of the fun.

Cheers.

I recommend to check the nut specially since sometimes the slots will become narrow for the higher gauge causing some tunning problems....

Hello Synkronized,

A very good point you've brought up.
Nut slot may need to be widened a hair.
#2 pencil lead will help keep thing slippy.

Cheers.
