I am a brand new 36 year old guitar slinger....woke up one morning this past December and had to play a guitar...so I went to GC and got a 2008 Electron Blue MIM Standard HSS Stratocaster.......Is there a difference for a newbie like me in terms of MIM or MIA....and do I have a keeper in my strat or do I upgrade to a MIA and if so why? I am only a living room player for now....but the future....who knows.....
Thanks
Toliver-Lyons

From what i've seen Santana has never really played a strat. I've been following him for years and hes either been playing a Yamaha (when he started) a couple gibsons here and there and now his signature PRS.

Whether gigging or lounge playing the instrument is a keeper. Its a great tool in its own right and has been since its conception in 92 (i think).
To my knowledge Carlos has never used them for anything. That said i bet he owns a couple.

The vocalist/rhythm guitarist in my band has gigged one for 13 years now, im just giving it a much overdue tweak and cant help thinking why do i own american strats? Its so nice.

Enjoy that guitar mate, thats the important bit.

there is absolutely nothing wrong with an MIM instrument. they are quality, reliable guitars. they sound and play great, as long as you keep them setup good.

I've been playing a MIM strat for years now. I've toured America and Europe with it. I tend to slam my guitar into things while i'm playing. (I've gone through about 20 amplifier cabs in the past 2 years.) I've played the guitar at an outdoor venue during a rainstorm. The guitar is like a rock. After all that it still plays great and sounds great. I've had to repair it many times, but its still an amazing instrument.

if you are just playing in your living room, MIM guitars will not let you down.

Here's me in my living room with my classic 50's MIM. Can't really see the sunburst, but we all know how gorgeous they are.

There is nothing wrong with MIM Fenders. They are great for either beginners or pros. I say as long as you like is the only thing that matters. I say have fun with it, learn all you can; and like you said, who knows what is in store for you in your future. RK
