I play a deluxe player's strat with fender vintage noiseless p/ups and I am looking to replace the bridge pickup(love the other positions, though). I just need something thicker, and can't stand the brittle, thin sound of the bridge p/up. I play into a Analogman TS9, a Voodoo Lab Micro Vibe, and a Boss RC-2(for looping) into a Fender Blues Junior. I play (well, try to play) music like Hendrix, Cream, Rush, The Allman Brothers, Phish, The Who, etc. Can anyone recommend some true single-coil bridge p/ups to try? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

JbJr is a nice balanced single spaced HB. But it soesn't sound like a Strat pup tho.

the finest tone I have found is the way a Deluxe is wired with the S1 Switch. Position 1 with the S1 pushed in is the rear and middle pup together in series, like humbucker - more tone and higher output.

You can wire it this way without the S1 though :D

You're in a peculiar pickle, Strat Fan.

The VN pickups all use a 1MΩ volume control pot by design necessity. Traditional single coils use a 250kΩ while true humbuckers require a 500kΩ.

Have you tried lowering your bridge pickup? That may take some of the edge off an' fatten up the tone.

Another mod (not limited to only VN pickups) is to wire your bottom tone control to the bridge pickup -- thus running the middle pickup "straight". I've use this mod on a number of Strats and it makes the bridge pickup much more versatile.

Good luck, HTH

amen to that. In my opinion, this mod is a must. you need to have control over the bridge pickups tone. I actually have mine set at about halfway permanently, as I have the pot floating around under the pickguard, because I replaced the tone control with a killswitch.
