Actually thats about the right price for a American Deluxe 50th in excellent condition, and at 850. you are above its book value.

CV...Im not sure I understand your comment. ARe you saying the AmDlx 50th has a book value of around $800 today?

Where do you get a "book value" on Strats?

The Blue Book maybe?

Bluestube....are you saying there is a book called "The Blue Book" that discusses current Strat book values and prices? Ive seen "blue books" and "black books" for automobiles, but wasnt aware of the equivalent for guitars.

I have seen them street for 800 to 900 for the 2004 Amer De. 50th. The ones that I always look for from 2004 on is the Quilt maples you dont see them and if you get one you may turn it over for that 1050. I keep a running list of guitars that I look at and ask price because as you may no I will buy for the sole purpose of turning it around if the price is right. It always amazes me what some try to sell for, I went and looked at Tom Delonge strat a hour ago and the dude wanted 500. I offered 300 so we will see if he calls me. I will get it clean it and give a good setup and turn it for 375. Heck 500 was it new cost I would be a fool to pay thet just like I would never pay 1200. for the 50th deluxe because that was new cost and they sure have not gone up in value any.
Guitars today are like many other things buy new for 1200. walk out the door its worth 900. it no longer new an nothing rare.
Plus remember the economy is tough right now there are people selling a lot now days and its a buyers market.

Bingo! +1 Right on.

I am just starting to see more regular "Big Sale" emails from the major US online retailers: Sam Ash, American Musical Supply, Guitar Center. These guys are trying to stimulate some purchasing!

In particular, a recent Sam Ash email mentioned that you had to call to get their sale prices because the "Minimum Advertised Price" agreements prohibited them from posting/publishing the lower prices on their web site. So that's the important message, you have to call and talk to a human to get the really good prices!

Im with you, CV.

I kicked myself when I balked at bidding up past $750 on a clean AmDlx 50th. the winner paid $755, if I recall correctly. I've seen many go for $800-$900 as you have suggested. However, you might agree that they do sell for over $1200 on Ebay occassionally. In my business, the "Bid" is $750 and the "Ask" is $1200. Not a bad spread.

Do you mind if I ask you a bit more about your quick-turn strategy? Do you flip them on Ebay, CraigsList or via some brick/mortar shop? Happy to take it offline if your interested in chatting about it.

I dont do ebay any more did in the past not for some time now
Until a couple months ago all went in the Balt Examiner until they closed now the local Times. I only do it some because its hard to make anything unless the price is right. I make more doing work on them for he local shop and there is another that calls me for jobs now that I have been laid off from my regular job I have time on my hands and no more travel out of the blue for the University Labs

Sam ash about 2 months ago had the Blue Flower Strat thats MIJ on sale for 600.00 by the time I thougt why not they were 999. just 2 days latter and not available. now I am keeping my eye on the Blue Flower Telle that they have as limited amount avail. in the hopes that when they are at the level of one or two that may happen on them. Sam Ash is good at doing that.

Good time to be buying used for sure. Here in Tulsa you can pickup a lot of Fender gear on the cheap. See MIA stuff on craigslist daily for 700-800. 8) Mike

I've loved my MIM, but it could be better. I think you just have to decide if price is going to be the rate limiting step in your hobby. And the MIA aren't really that expensive. Any hobby, such as mountain biking or boating, have much higher start up costs. But as a total newb, I bought a MIM strat and a Blues Jr amp... well under $1000 and I have had endless fun!
