Okay, I think there is a possibility that my 1996 re-issue fender is a 1996 neck bolted onto something of far less quality!! I'm going to try add some pics, and feeback on this guitar is much appreciated.

Nothing was snotty about my comment. Just factual. And that body does not look right. Could you take off the neck?

Fair enough, I'm just a bit rattled, I didn't actually know I could add the pics to a previous post, so I'll apologise for losing it a bit there. I'll take the neck off quick and post another pic..

The pickguard might be from an SX "stratocaster" clone. Maybe the body too.

The neck looks kind of squier with an aftermarket decal.

Also the pickups routing looks sort of strange....why is the neck pickup route smaller than the middle pickup route? I have never seen that before.

I don't think the body is genuine, look at the wood...what is that balsa??

Just kidding, but seriously that guitar screams fake.

well I do have one slight bit of encouragement, I took the neck off and there is a date underneath that says 14 July 1996, which I doubt SX would take the time to do, my God I hope it's not an SX.. :( I've taken a pic will upload it and post it now.

In my opinion the neck and body are not made for each other. The routing on that body looks like someones first attempt at routing. I'm sorry man and I could easily be wrong. Maybe another poster can confirm my suspicions. Good luck! There are some real knowledgeable posters on here that can tell you in a heartbeat! :?
That 2nd pic with the neck in the body (close up) Wow!!

well as soon as I got the pick guard off and looked inside I was seriously worried, I agree totally that the neck and body don't seem to match, the electronics are shabby to say the least and this is not what one would come to expect from Fender..
