Fellas,

I went with the black/rosewood combo. The blizzard pearl was already on hold and the sunburst/maple or rosewood just didn't quite do it for me. There's just something about a good ol' black strat, IMHO. I've never owned a black one because I always tend to gravitate towards the "prettier" ones like the sunburst. This time, though, I thought I would just stick with black. PLUS, the black was actually only $937.00 + tax so it was a little better deal!

Anyway, I love it not just because it's a sweet guitar but because I really feel like I got a great deal.

What do you think about the extended warranty. The salesman tried to sell it to me based on the all the electronics in the VG saying that "if anything goes wrong it won't be cheap to fix". It's $79.00 for a year and $109.00 for 2 years. The extended warranty would start after the manufacturer's warranty which I think is one year. What do you think?

Pass -- Also, I was at the local GC today, and the beautiful sunburst VG they had there had a pricetag of $1750. You made a killing.

I had the exact VG buying experience that you had, fenderzig. The blizzard pearl/maple was in the process of being sold when I got to Guitar Center and there were two 3 tone sunbursts, one maple, one rosewood, and one black/rosewood VG left. I played all three and bought the black one.

The black/rosewood VG also provides a nice contrast to my other favorite American Standard Stratocaster color/fretboard combo olympic white/maple.

Have I ever mentioned how much I love Stratocasters? Probably.

John.Bohn,

That's crazy because I also have a vintage white with maple fretboard strat too! It looks just like yours! I'd post pics but I haven't ever done that and I'm not quite sure how to do that.

Anyway, I'm really enjoying the VG. It has a very familiar feel to it just like m other American srats plus it has all those awesome, unique features in the Roland electronics. I'm playing through a Boogie Roadster and it sounds great! Typically, I'm not much of a Tele fan but I like the tele sounds on this. There's really not one sound I don't like. Overall, a great value!

I agree that an extended warranty just doesn't seem to be worth it. I can add it anytime within the next 30 days so I'll keep thinking about it but as of tonight I'm leaning against it.

01GTeibach, On a side note, my buddy just picked up the 2-tone burst with maple neck. It was still stickered at $1699 but it still rang up as $999. I think that all of the VGs are being liquidated at $999 so it might be worth asking why one is still marked at $1750.

Just when we think we've gotten out, they pull us back in. Doesn't he know how dangerous it is to those of us on the G.A.S. wagon to post pictures like that? :? Fortunately for me, it doesn't seem like any of those V-neck, Sienna Sunburst GC FSR models are around at that price.

They likely have not gotten around to updating it. Regardless, I am excited for you and John.Bohn -- the deal of 2009. Suh - weet.

No kidding! That should be turned into a postcard, or a poster or something.

I think the one on the right needs some SPF 35.

Nice picture. I have friends in Scottsdale (McDowell Mountain Ranch) makes me think I should go visit again.

You have excellent taste in American Strats, fenderzig. :)

Posting pics is easy if you have a digital camera. Just set up a free account on a photo hosting site like Photobucket, upload your pics there, copy the IMG Code of the photo you want to post here and paste it into your message.

I had so much fun experimenting with all the tones of the VG that I already killed the original batteries. I bought a battery charger and 8 rechargeable NiMH AA batteries yesterday so I'm set now.

I tried to be strong zzdoc... I really did. I was only stopping at Guitar Center to buy strings and there it was... a shiny black/rosewood VG. I started my love affair with Fender 42 years ago with a black/rosewood Strat and I couldn't resist buying another one at that price. It's good to be back in black.

Now if there is an empty seat on the G.A.S. wagon... I'm back on it. No, really.

Thanks for the kind comments on the outdoor Strats pic ripitup555, David58117 and dkais. We got lucky and bought this house years ago before Paradise Valley real estate went crazy. There is no way I could afford to move into this neighborhood now but this house is paid off and I'm staying. I call myself a PV legacy. :)
