Got it today. Seems to have suffered minor water damaged through incorrect storage (screws rusted). Also i've the lovely job of getting rid of the dunlop straplocks and getting the correct schallers installed. Dowel and finish job (help).

Also the neck pocket seems to have vasceline in it. Anyone know why that may be? My initial thought was to stop damp penetrating the exposed wood there.

It was in a bit of a state tell the truth. The excessive rust on the pickguard screws and the general muck on it made me think its gotten damp whilst in storage. The guy i bought it off has several very nice guitars (a shshkov tele with bigsby for one) and a very nice studio all together. I dont doubt he had it in storage, his space was a little cramped.

Got it back set it up how i like em and it plays nicely indeed. The neck is very much like my hotrods. Bit of muck in the selector switch which was sorted out by flicking it through the positions for a couple of minutes. Nice snappy sound loads of treble on tap but still very defined and vocal on the bass and middle. Gotta recrown the frets as a couple of them have been damaged and fine tune the trem. That should see me through tommorow.

Jay 1200us isnt too far off what i paid cash on collection.

I hear ya Big Jay - I remember seeing a lot of those on eBay - I missed one of the 60th Diamond Anniversary's the other day, it was in the 700's and some dude outbid me by 10 bucks in the last 3 seconds - made me sick - I should have bid more, but just didnt - I thought I had it won - it had the chrome looking case, the diamond inlay at the end of the headstock - mint condition, never played, in the case - uggg, I really wanted that guitar!!

Hello Nikininja,

Great looking 50th,
I like anniversary models
kinda "in your face date code"

As for the vaseline in the neck pocket
thats a new one on me.

I know you'll have fun with it.

Cheers.

The plastic over the pickguard is long gone. I'm thinking about putting some gaffa tape over the anniversary emblem though  .

Mr Bill im stumped with it too. All i can think is that its to act as a moisture barrier the same as with car battery terminals.

I presume the seller gave you the originals, as promised on his Ebay page...?

Far as Vaseline in the pocket is concerned: new one on me, but I wonder if someone thought it a cure for creaky neck joint syndrome? Ew...

Cheers - C

Yee-haa! Very happy!! :D

I'll be sure to return that compliment some time or other...

Though when I try to listen to the engine I'm told I don't have the owner's permission. Story of my life, far as fast cars are concerned...

Thank you, Mr N.

Cheers - C
