Welcome to the forum! I hate to tell you and don't know if it's true but rumor here has been that they are going to discontinue the VG Strat. I may be wrong though.

Hi Hop: wow, really? I hadn't heard that one. Seems a strange possibility, what with Gibson continuing development of their comparable technologies and recently putting it all together into their Dark Fire Les Paul.

None of it appeals to me particularly, but it would be a shock to see Fender backing out of the competition so early into this particular race...

Cheers - C

More than a rumor, check the product page:

VG Stratocaster®
* Discontinued as of April 2009. Please check with your local authorized Fender Dealer for availability.

Well; indeed!

I just checked the products page as David58117 suggested and it seems it's true. Most astonishing.

I can't believe Fender's leaving the field clear for Gibson: surely there'll be an announcement of something new in due course. Anybody heard any industry gossip...?

Cheers - C

Streuth, it must have really bombed. I had no idea.

Those who have them seem to really like them, from what we read here - but I guess just not many takers, presumably...?

I think that's it. Slow sales. Like you say, most who own them really like them. May be a good question for Mike E.

As i said in a previous thread fender have displayed a fair bit of style on the modeling guitar war. Gibson catch up 18months later and fender discontinue their modeller. In truth i dont think its sold that well. Were a traditional lot aren't we. I forsee the same fate for the darkfire, has the robot caught on yet?

Neither brand will beat line 6 though. They started all this and have presumably developed the technology further and have a better understanding of it than either fender or gibson, by way of researching it longer. Just such a shame them variax's are so damn ugly.

I was kind of starting to think about it and then hhmmm. Guess I'll continue to save up for my future Gretsch. 8)

It may be that owners that have them (such as Gil) should hold on to them for a long time. They might be some what of a collectors guitar in years to come. Like I said earlier everyone that I've talked to who owns one loves them! How long were they in production? The shorter the better!

I just bought my American Standard for a little under that price, and I'm still within the return window. I've thought about returning it for the Blizzard Pearl VG,..but something about the traditional Strat in Charcoal Frost is just appealing to me. I hope I don't kick myself in 20 years when the VG is a collectors item.....

The VG was never a good seller for Fender. Guitar players like the old school guitar. And think about why sell a guitar that can fill the place of several when you in the bussines of trying to sell people more then one
