I am a long-time blues fan but have always avoided Robert Cray. Recently, I borrowed a friends CD, I think its called "20." Not expecting much, I took a listen. Wow, after all these years, I now know why he has his own signiture model strat. You can just hear the sound of the strat. His songs are nicely arranged and there are no over-the-top solos. Very tasteful. What a great player and a really nice voice to boot. Also, gotta love a guy who gets a cameo in Animal House. Can I get an amen for brother Robert?

Also, I was wondering what amp he uses. Its a great tone, not overkill on the distortion and what seems to me just a bit of compression.

If you get the chance, go see him in concert. He is currently touring. I saw him in 1990 I think and then again a couple of weeks ago here in CT. It was a pretty small venue and he was using 1 Fender amp and 2 Matchless amps.

His playing for me can be summed up in one word: Tasty.

I've always liked Robert's playing. You certainly don't need a Robert Cray signature strat to get is sound though. Any old strat will do, just put the switch in the neck/middle position and let your fingers and ears do the rest. One of the reasons I like his playing is that it sounds good even while being totally devoid of any sustain.

I don't think he uses reverb either. I love his playing, but I am a reverb junkie.

His singing is the best part of Robt. Cray. He always tells a story. It's like his trademark. I don't think he's ever put a bad album out.

Yeah, he's the bass player in Animal House's 'Otis Day and the Knights'.

I'm listening to my LP yes LP of Roberts strong persuader album, probably his biggest seller. He's always been good. He is also a big fella I met him probably 20 years or so ago and he must a been 6'3" or bigger just big and when you watch his videos or concerts you see he can put his thumb all the way over the fretboard and keep his fingers allthe way as well. man thats gotta help. Jimmie could do that too.

Cray's awesome. I've seen him play a number of times and met him a few times as well. Great guy and a great player. Very clean technique, which I love. Very precise playing - more so than most.

His voice is just as great as his playing.

Definitely one of my favorite players. Strong Persuader is a solid record and his collaboration with Clapton on Old Love is amazing.
