1. Fender 57/62 pickups. best non-FCS pickups out there. period.

2. Historically accurate. I hate all the modern crap they throw on the Am deluxe, especially the bridge

3. awesome neck

4. pretty to look at. the Am Deluxe just isn't eye-pleasing to me.

but hey, whatever floats your boat

There is a preference among some for the classic feel of the original Stratocasters which is what the RI offers. If the Deluxe speaks to you, it's the guitar for you.

Fifty years of playing Strats of all stripes....when I picked up that Gilmour, I was home. Same for the '89 Clapton I purchased on Ebay.

Different strokes. That's what it boils down to. Enjoy your guitar. Hopefully, it will be one of many.

Doc

I'm far from there presently as well. Looking forward to next year end holiday season. Will have another tall one with Stratmansteve and hopefully, nicinflorida.

I have both. Which one is better?.... It depends on what day it is.... I love them both.

Love playing my '57 just to pick up and play. Great body and tone. Just love the shape of the neck. When I pick it up, it fits like an old pair of leather gloves. You just want to lean into it and play some Buddy Holly or Muddy Waters.

But.... The Dlx has the best frets ever! When I want to play something that has some heft a smooth, it's the DLX. The polished frets are soooooo smooth it feels like butter. Everything about this guitar is just polished and smooth. Even when I dail it up for a little raunch, it just sounds smooth.

I've changed the pups on both of these guitars, but the character of both still stayed the same. One is just raw and fun, while the other is comfortable and smooth.

So, from someone who owns both... Do you want a '65 Mustang, or a new BMW 750i?

IMHO

I have to agree if I had both I AM SURE that 1 day my favorite would be the deluxe and another day it would be the 57. Sometimes it changes through the months too.
Its like being used to driving a certain car. I was driving my GF's car and actually reached up at the steering wheel to put it in park (her shifter is on the dash between the seats unlike my old car which is up on the steering wheel). Sometimes its habit that makes the feel for you, other times it is the difference between our hands or fingers. For example, if you have fat fingers rather than slender; u might like the feel of the deluxe better as it has a slightly wider string spacing than the 57. On the other hand the radius of the fret board of a 57 is 'rounder' than that of the deluxe which some find more comfortable for 'chording'. But I could be wrong.
Personally, I believe any player can learn and adapt to any guitar. I think you made a great choice. But what matters is what you think and what inspires your playing, NOT OURS! Don't worry yourself, it won't be your last strat if u are like most of us here.

Old post but good subject.

I've been looking at both, too.

Very different. I like the 57 but am not sure about the finish. The Nitrocellulose is on the neck, not sure about that. But, I like the vintage feel of the 57.

The Deluxe - nice in a different way.

I have a Deluxe and I like it just fine, I like the "deluxe" features, but truth be known I prefer my deluxe Tele for the U shaped neck.

I wish they offered the Vintage 57 in Candy Apple Red. That would be the one for me.
