If you are a Fender artist, does that mean you receive free guitars?

It depends on what kind of endorsement deal you have. I'm sure that if you have your own signature model, they'll give you just about whatever you want. Some players who are endorsed by Fender just get discounts on their gear.

Why the damn huge script?
I think they receive various free items depending on contract which in turn depends on proven sales

contact corporate about that.
just to let you know, most companies will only endorse people who they think will sell the product, regardless of playing ability.

So you could be the greatest guitarist in the world, but unless you are selling millions of records, and appearing on big stages around the world, they are unlikely to be interested in an endorsement deal.

This also explains why people such as Deryck Whibley and Avril Lavigne have endorsements. They are terrible musicians, but they sell records, so now all the preteen kids starting guitar want their signature models.

With those massive companies it's most likely on a "dont contact us we'll contact you" basis.

Too true... anyone remember the "Venus" guitar that Fender made for Courtney Love?

You should check out the list of Fender Artists before you conclude that you've gotten the lowdown this subject.

Fender has deals with lots of regional and indie acts that don't sell mega-piles of records, and I can assure that Fender didn't go out looking for them: they contacted the Artist Relations department at Fender.
