Hi,
I have a MIM 2005 Fender Deluxe with Fender®/Ping® Vintage Style Tuning Machines and a Vintage Style Synchronized Tremolo bridge. I'm new to Fenders so needing some help with following problem. One of my strings broke and when I replaced it I noticed the string's saddle had moved and the set-up at bridge has slightly altered due to the string breakage. Is this a common problem with these guitars and if so, why? And how do I re-set the string or bridge?
Thanks,
Stratgib

Its normal for the saddle to become looser without a strings tension on it.
How did it move? Which way? Try following the setup guide in the support section. The button is at the top of the page.

Thanks for the reply, will look in the support section. The saddle has dropped (moved down) which is weird as the saddles were all set level and now the top E string which is the string that broke, is sitting lower than normal or lower than the other saddles.

I checked out the support materials on this site and though they're helpful, it hasn't really answered my initial question or addressed my problem. Anybody else able to help?

What exactly is the problem can you post a picture? It's hard to determine exactly whats going on from your description.

Hi stratgib: hard to understand what's happened from this. The saddle has "moved down": moved down where? Away from the neck, or lower to the plate?

"The saddles were all set level": the saddles should be neither in line with one another vertically above the trem plate nor in their distance from the neck.

Perhaps you bought this guitar "pre-owned" with a rather peculiar setup by the previous player?

Posting pics would help us understand your issue, but I suspect this might be a case for a visit to a good tech. A full professional setup will not be too expensive...

Cheers - C

Thanks for all the replies thus far, sorry if I'm confusing the situation. Taking a photo really won't show much as the really the only noticable thing on the guitar is the fact that the high E string saddle has dropped down towards the pickguard plate and the string sits slightly lower (action wise) across the fingerboard. Also I noticed in the back of the bridge it has five springs rather than three. Could this be part of the problem?

The E and e saddles are normally lower than the saddles beside it to follow the curve of the fretboard radius. No, having 5 springs will not cause the issue you might be having.

My suggestion is to take the guitar in to an authorized Fender Tech and have a setup down.

Sounds to me like the guitar is new to you. I would have it checked out and have a complete setup done on it by a tech.
