I was once a Metal Enthusiast, myself.

The Case Against a Fender Digital Pickup: Tony Iommi didn't need no stinking digital pickup to produce the finest heavy metal back in 1970-ish.

I know a fair bit about putting them in a state of needing repair. Mr Iommi wouldnt employ me to fix em. I didnt see Tony at the cradely factory. Infact the whole place was quiet. I hope its not a sign that their struggling. Laney occupy a special place in my memories.

The amps stop working when the magic smoke gets released.

I like the fact that guitars are truly analog instruments. I don't want anything digital anywhere near my guitars.

Yeah...As someone who has been working in a digital medium since the very first Passport/Apple II midi system was available, I still can't see any advantage in having an analog guitar signal converted to digital at the source. If all I want to do is use the guitar as a controller for other signal sources, that technology is widely available. Ghost makes one that works with their saddles. VG, Roland, whatever, it's just a hex pickup and midi controller. If you want to convert to digital just for modeling you can get a line 6 Toneport for 100 bucks, set it up as a plug-in for your recording software, and it will do at least as good a job as the VG.

If I am actually looking to capture the guitar tone itself in a pristine 24 bit version, then the Analog-to-Digital converter is the critical link. I want the entire signal chain, not just the calculations of string vibrations. I want the whole range of tone and dynamics in a performance. Do I really want to do it with a little 90 dollar a-to-d converter at the bridge, before my amps and pedalboard, or use a high end Appogee at the end of my signal chain?
