I just purchased a 2007 Strat Standard (New). When I removed the protective coating on the pick guard, it left the glue behind. Does anyone know how to remove this glue without damaging the plastic guard?

Wow, that's unusual. You could try 3M adhesive remover dabbed on a rag. I believe the part # is 8984. I gotta warn you though, the stuff stinks badly.

I will give them a try.

The guitar has been sitting in a music store for 2 years. Probably had direct sunlight on it for part of the day. This may have affected the glue.

Same thing with mine, the plastic was difficult to peel of and left addhesive behind.

I think mine had sat in the shop for some time, got it last month but it was made in 2007!

The neck had also warped slightly by the way!

I bought some rubbing alcohol - it removed 99% od it with a lot of rubbing. Still need to remove the strings and the pick guard to get at all of the tight spots.

Are you sure it's the glue? I say this because I have a similar problem but mine is not the glue. When I first peeled off the plastic and the stickers the pick guard looked fine but as it aged it started to show a lighter color where the stickers were. This is caused by light actually fading the pick guard but not allowing it to fade under the stickers. So now I have 2 areas where the stickers were that are whiter than the rest. I tried to clean it but nothing worked. I need a new pick guard unless somebody has a solution.
