Hi jtman824 and welcome to the forum. I am happy to inform you that you can put your name on the waiting list for the building of the perfect guitar because it has not been invented yet.

In the meantime, take a look at the price list where you can have a good idea of the yeays and the nays.

http://admin.fender.com/resources/price ... ctrics.pdf

What do you like to play? It would be a good starting point for suggestions and ideas. Blues, rock, jazz, metal, country, anything goes. It is true that some guitars are associated with such and such genre, but as I said you get to decide what you want to play. Good luck. 8)
Claude.

What is the perfect guitar for one person is not even close for others.
Personally I find a guitar that I can bond with, play it for a while to learn it's personality, then make some mods to it to go along with the personality and make it mine.

Go to guitar center . com and look around there to get an idea whats out there. The VG Strats were just discontinued and are now selling at $999 ($1600 previously), so check those out. Then go to a shop and PLAY SOME!!

Well said CAFeathers! Perfection is a moving target.

It's kinda funny, a friend of mine has his perfect Strat but whenever he plays mine, he drools. You never know what you got until someone else wants it :D !

My experience is they are quality instruments.

I not only agree with this, I'll take it one step further...

My advice to the OP is to go to every music store you can and PLAY every guitar that you can before you even start to make a decision. Looking at pictures on the internet (even from a reputable source such as Musician's Friend or something) doesn't tell you a single thing about how a guitar feels, plays or sounds. Think of it this way...would you ever marry a woman based on her picture on the internet? She could be the most beautiful woman you've ever seen but in person she could be a complete temperamental $@!&* or she could just have the IQ of a shoe....and goodness only knows how she is in the bedroom! LOL!!! (No offense to any of the female players here...the reverse is obviously true as well). In this regards I find guitars to be very much like women...a really pretty one may catch your eye from across the room but until you go up to her and meet her and get to know her a little you really don't know if she's "right for you".

For most people, guitars are a very personal thing and as such are quite subjective...what may be right for one person may be total crap for someone else. The -ONLY- way to find the guitar that is perfect for you is to play as many as you can and then let your fingers and heart decide. At the risk of offending a few folks on the forum here or the powers that be, you may even find that perfect guitar isn't even a Fender...in my humble collection of "ladies" I have Fenders, Squires, Ovation, Seagull, Kramer and several others...no single one of them is "right" for me all the time. Of course the nice thing about having a harem of guitars is that it's legal in most states :D.

Just my highly subjective $.02 worth,
Jim
