I tend to like to look and feel of the maple necks better, but I've never noticed much of a difference in tone between the two.

I firmly believe in the different tone wood qualities and because of that my belief extends to the neck as much if not more then the body even though it the some total of all that counts. Because of that I think the addition of a different wood into the neck construction must cause some sound difference. Rosewood is a much darker soundwood then Maple just as Ebony is brighter the Maple as a soundwood. It is just another reason we all sit down and play a few guitars some that may be the same but we end up with one that we think sounds better. The necks are one of the things thats cause the difference in it manufacture shape, species, and the quality of the cut from the paticulair species. ( not all individual Maples or Rosewoods are the same)

Since the last time this came around and Ceri pointed me to someones earlier attempt i tried it myself. Play a barre chord on a rosewood boarded guitar with no effects at all added not even reverb and the eq dials all in the middle, then put a maple boarded neck on the guitar and do the same.

Sadly my lack of experience of recording onto pc and the attempted use of the laptops inbuilt mike didnt make for a good final result. Im not going to go swapping necks on my guitars again. However sometime after tuesday i will be in a possition to repeat the test far easier with a half decent recording tool. I'll play an A maj on my custom classic and then on my soon to be 06deluxe. Same specs bar the board and the gold hardware from 2 guitars of the same year.

I hear the difference as loud as motorhead, I do agree though its nothing that cant be eq'd in or out.

Well youve had some great advice given to you here so im going to say the same as rich costanza however i dont personally choose Rosewood over maple i prefer The look and feel of maple...

But then again if your having a mellow jam then you'll appreciate the rosewood,You need not fear the cold with RW its warm enough for everyone :D

No im not corny i just got given £5( $8 ) to be wet about this...

I hear a difference, but it's not huge and it differs from guitar to guitar. Generally I like rosewood better. Nice warm tone, good looks and great feel. But at the same time I don't turn my nose up at guitars with maple necks, I like them too. I lean more towards the jazz and blues side of things, which is another reason I like the slightly warmer tone of rosewood.
