I need to find out if the rout on a Highway one tremolo will accomodate a USA 2 point tremolo.

The outer screw holes one the Highway one are the same spacing as my 2 point Strat has so, I'm hoping I can just drill for bushings and drop the new one in.

Anyone tried this, or am I way off base here?

The Hwy-1 series, originally introduced in 2004 was re-designed in 2007. Which one do you have?

I'm not sure if their is even a difference, but on the pre-upgrade model you can just open up for bushings and drop in, if I recall correctly.

I have done exactly this only using a 60 mim body ... but before I drilled I sealed the 4 inner screw holes with wood filler stuff I bought of homedepot and let it dry overnight then next day I grabbed a piece of wood and practiced there several times before actually doing the body so once I felt I was an expert in the spacing and all I drilled the body and it came out perfect :D so I am guessing no matter which hole routing your body may have if you do it right then you can install an american 2 point bridge no problems.....

So, the outer screw holes are in the correct spot? (oh, man I'm getting excited.....could it be, could it be?   )

Reason I want to do it is mainly because I don't like the bar on a vint trem. I pound on it, and it always bends. (I know I shouldn't, but hey, like I said, I get excited 8) )

before you run the risk damaging the body and drilling for new trem, you might want to think about replacing the the steel block with one from Callaham guitars, they have everything you need, and not only would you solve your issue but you will have noticable increased sustain, and they use Stainless Steel Trem arms that fit better and won't strip on the threads,

Good Luck

make sure you check out the correct unit , pre and post '07 models there is a difference, and if you have questions call them they are great ! at giving you exactly what you need.

Well I would guess that it doesnt really matter if they are in the same spot since when drilling the new ones you are altering them and you can locate them in the correct point to point separation desired :)

I was changing strings last night, and I found that the board (rosewood) has an issue. I looks like there is a crease (possible crack) running up the middle.

I'm taking it back today. If they have another one then I'll look further into this. If not then......

Thanks for the help

Well, I took back the HW 1 and got a used 004 Deluxe, 50th anniversary in 3 tone burst.

It is in better condition than the new ones hanging on the rack! It even has the original film on the pickguard and trem cover. Must have been in someone's closet for the last 5 years.

I got it for $850. When I checked ebay they go for like $1100-$1300 for the one I have.

They wanted $1000 but they gave me the 15% and even financed it under their Yamaha 1 yr same as cash (I had to buy a $20 dollar Yamahe pedal, but hey, it was worth it!).

I just wanted to thank everyone for the help answering my questions about the HW 1 trem
