Plan to purchase a Fender HSS Stratocaster MIM for my daughter, but something just doesn't look right. The seller sent a couple of fuzzy pictures of the body and headstock.

Here is what my untrained eye noticed.

1) Spaghetti logo on front of headstock looks like a 2006 Fender Stratocaster Custom Shop Custom Classic. Reads (Fender Stratocaster) but no trade mark or Made in Mexico
2) Black aluminum pickguard with swirl finish
3) Black chrome knurled knobs
4) White body, black pickguard, black knobs, black pickup covers.
5) Given serial number MZ6xxxxxx but no picture to verify.
6) Seller says the headstock has a 60th anniversary decal or symbol on back, again no picture.

All of my internet research suggests a fake. I can't find an exact or even very similar picture of a (I assume 2006 MIM HSS Strat)

Here is a link to a quick website for displaying the pictures. Three fuzzy thumbnails will appear. You must click each thumbnail to get the picture to display. Sorry, I'm not a web guy.

http://sites.google.com/site/fenderpictures/

Any thoughts, real or fake?

Thanks in advance,
FlyNavyP3C

Any chance of a link to the site where you have the pictures. I noticed the IMG code is incomplete and didnt work.

Unless the seller can send you a picture of the serial number, I would think its a fake. And it is a heavily modified fake (note the pickguard and volume/tone knobs, which are not Fender), too. Digital pictures can be obtained quickly, and without flash. Demand better pictures and if they can't supply, look elsewhere. As it stands, I would look for another deal; a better one may materialize, soon.

Looking at those pictures the seller is clearly trying to hide something. They seem to have gone out of their way to give you pictures but mask any kind of detail. How hard is it to take a clear photo? Why no picture of the complete guitar?

It doesnt look like a custom classic headstock. Those logo's have a faint gold outline to them that one is all black. Also the customclassic's have nicely figured maple. Heres mine

Notice the outline is fine but clearly there. To my mind the only all black logo's fender used were on 70's guitars, 90's squire series (my personal favourite of all necks) and 2008 mexico's.

Aftermarket additions aside from the body that can easily be changed back to original for $30 odd.

Sorry about the massive link code

I'd walk away now unless its local and at a insanely low price ($50). Its worth a trip across town to look at for that price.

Is that a 10 screw pickguard?

More likely the bottom tone pot is obscuring the screw. The guard would flap otherwise.

Hi, I wouldnt buy it only because if you are already feeling bad vibes from the seller then it could turn out to be a fake and thats the worst that can happen ... look somewhere else there are lots of strats specially on ebay in good condition cheap seriously :)

This may come as a surprise, but I think the guitar is legit.

What kind of price are you talking?

Well, the guitar strap is certainly genuine. I have one just like it.

Thanks for your help everyone.

I think flanker35 and orvilleowner are right. (Appreciate the pictures)

It looks like a MIM, FSR, FACTORY SPECIAL RUN. Same pickguard, knurled knobs, etc...

It seems legit, but it just doesn't feel right. Think I am going to pass and look for another one.

Thank you everyone. I really appreciate your time and effort.
