Hey Yall

Adjusted the Action and saddle height for some nice low action, only now the saddle height screws stick out kinda high and dig into the side of my hand. I understand that I could grind them smaller, but I'd like to know if there are after market saddle height screws I can get to fix this problem. Are there any other solutions? Thanks.

Out of curiousity, what type of saddles do you have?

It will be vintage trem saddles. The ends sticking out is quite normal. Wilkinson make saddles with height adjustment screws that dont stick out the top. Whether those screws will fit your saddles is another matter though.

That's what I was guessing, being as the modern ones are designed differently.

These saddles are the stainless steel saddles on a '90 American Standard USA Strat. They aren't chrome, they look like black anodized metal. They adjust with a .05 allen wrench, so they are quite small and I doubt I can find something like this at a hardware store (thanks for the suggestion, though).

I'll try a local luthier, but I'm surprised nobody here has encountered this situation yet. I may be able to adjust the neck tilt a bit more, but I don't think that will help me turn the screws back in enough. Nikininja, I'll look into Wilkinson's product line. Thanks.

The guitar plays beautifully. My only concern is that those sharp threads on the screws might tear up my hand when doing those Pete Townshend windmills (LOL). Anyway, thanks for the input. I really appreciate it.

I feel your pain. The other thing you can do, if you're prepared for a few hours of work, is shim the neck up so that the saddles can sit higher and keep the screws off of your hand. It is a tricky job, but it can be done. I shimmed the neck up on my telecaster with the back of a matchbook to rectify a couple of problems, not least of which was the low, low bridge saddles.

Or - you can change saddles. You can get the same saddles Fender uses on the MIA deluxe for around $25. They are nice saddles -- I am happy with mine. Just a suggestion...

Dont deluxe saddles have a offset screw to adjust intonation. If so they may not work on a vintage trem plate.

They make them available without the offset for vintage trem (mine is 6 point).
