Which do you think is better? Graphite or 3 in 1 Oil for lubricating saddles and nuts.

To me the nut sauce I got a sample of looks exactly like Super Lube (that I use all the time for other applications):

I like GraphitAll (but you can make it yourself too). It stays put and works well.

How much do you use? Do you dab it on and wipe of the extra?

i use a tiny bit of vaseline in the nut. it works well.

Vaseline also works well for lubricating truss rod nuts, especially if you are dealing with an older guitar. On most of the vintage guitars I repair, the truss rod nut is usually corroded on.

Hello YZF JOE,

#2 pencil on the nut,
& 3in1 on the saddle.

Works well for me.

Cheers.

I used powdered graphite for years. It works well but is messy. A year ago or so I switched to this which I like much better:

So, if I use 3 in 1 on the saddles do I just dab a little on and wipe off the excess leaving a thin film to avoid dirt buildup?

Hello YZF JOE,

I apply the oil with a needle.
I dip into a tiny pool of the oil
and touch it to the area to be
lubricated so there is little excess.

Cheers.

Thanks Mr Bill. I think I'll try that next string change.
