My first thought when I saw the Eye was that Gibson must have hired Jack White as a guitar designer.

Does anyone else think the maple fretboards on Gibson's new Power line of Les Pauls and SGs look Fenderish? Hmmm.

SG's horns aren't symmetrical. The upper horn is longer already--elongating an SG just exaggerates that--no need to copy a Strat to do that.

Yep, even the amps and Gibson doesn't make a huge amount of amps. I own a couple of Gibson's but don't carry the whole attitude thing. All my guitars are just tools. They all have a place. A lot of Gibson guys hate Fender and vice versa. It's just plain stupid.

It's like I tell my kids every time Gibson puts out one of these monstosities, It's like if your Grandpa comes up with something that he thinks will be "really keen" (pun intended :D ) for you, but what he thinks is keen, is completely ridiculous. :?

To me Gibson is behind the times, relying on the Les Paul ti keep them afloat.

What they need is some new blood in their R&D department.

Remember the Prophesy line or the ever popular reverse "V" <---- ? Those really flew of the shelves. :?

What do you think keeps Fender alive? It's just variations of the same old thing. Strats and Teles with a zillion different pup variations. The Les Paul, ES335 and SG are classic just like the Strat and Tele. The Les Paul has always been their mainstay not the V or the Explorer. The Jaguar and Jazzmaster were never huge sellers either. The thing is and I'm no huge Gibson guy, is that Gibson so far has refused to move to Mexico or China. They are made in America by American workers. It's a pride thing. Even Martin Guitar has moved it's "lower cost" instruments to Mexico. I do agree I really don't care for Gibsons new stuff like the Robot, but I don't care for the Road Worn stuff either.

Of course The Strat and Tele is Fender's mainstays as well. But read my post carefully. I'm not saying that's a bad thing. It's just that what they do put out that is new is just stupid. They aren't listening.

Fender doesn't resort to junk like that new Gibson. Every time I have talked to Fender or read up on them, or even viewed their new product videos, they are savvy to what is happening with players. From what I've seen they are listening to us.

I have 3 fenders - 2 are USA one is MIM. All of them were perfectly setup and flawless. to the contrary, I own 2 Gibsons - 1 was purchased new. It was set up poorly and the nut was blown from the factory! The other one was used but had a saw cut on the butt end of the fret board, that should never have left the factory. These 2 guitars were 18 years apart, yet both had pretty large flaws.

I say again, Gibson is riding on the Les Paul name/image, they aren't flexible (unless you call that thing they just put out being flexible). It's like "we'll tell you what we want to sell you". They kind of have the cart before the horse.

And BTW: Gibson was on the top 10 WORST companies to work for in '08

Actually if oyu look at it, the SG (though it started life as one of the Les Paul models--but then what Gibson electric didn't  ) The SG is by far and away their biggest seller.

Figured the Eye guitar wouldn't look as bad if it came in a black finish and an X-Plorer/Flying-V/Firebird headstock design...otherwise it looks uglier than Jigsaw from the Punisher: War Zone movie...

Fender just puts a signature name to a Strat. or Tele. I would be willing to bet that those Gibson Eye's being limited to what 350 are far from being junk. And you also must no that even the Gibson Les Paul Standards are now being set up on a PLEK so your saying that Gibson setups are junk may not be the case now unless you are saying the plek system is a joke which I would bet most would say you are wrong.
