I dunno. Make it blue, with a black pickguard. Change the guard for something like the Steve Morse Music man model and it could be pretty cool.

What i don't like on their limited run model pages, are the 2 'Tribal' models.
Copying ESP's copies of Gibson's designs. And a Kahler trem with no locking nut? they did that before and no one liked it.

I don't care for that guitar, but I see no Fender inspiration really. Its more SG than anything fender, and I would guess will sound just like a SG, since the construction and pickup config is essentially the same.

I don't know what it has to do with Fender. It's just Gibson making the same old Gibson mistakes. Mahogony is just too soft for 24 fret double cutaway necks. I had a mid-sixties SG Standard with a LOG for a neck and it did not hold a good tune.

Fender's maple necks are way better. :D

Wasnt the SG introduced to take strat customers?
Gibson made a 3 sc lipstick sg at the start of the year that no one bought. That looked very stratlike too.

Gibson and Fender have both offered models over the years to compete with each other.

I do think the SG was one of those models that stuck, but as a guitar with its own identity, it never sounded like a Fender.

Gibson hired Bill Lawrence in the 70's to create a muti-sound pickup configuration for the SG. He did notlike the idea, and pitched making a new Guitar to compete with Fender. After many compromizes by the bean counters at Gibson, the result was the Gibson L6S. This is a nice guitar regardless of the compromizes made, but it was ultimately viewed as a poor mans LP, and as a result did not sell very well.

It a good read and may open your eyes to a well kept secret Gibson guitar that was actually pretty good. Here is the story:

Not Fender at all. Def SG. I really love the 61 RI SG which I will buy very soon.

It's not Fender influenced at all. It looks more like a modified SG.
I know a lot of guys on this forum hate any Gibson just because it's a Gibson. It looks pretty retro. I like the way it looks, but I probably wouldn't buy one. My Supro is kind of retro looking too.
The SoCal is just ugly period. It looks like a stripped down Strat with longer horns. I bet the Gibby sounds better too than the SoCal too.

bordering on ridiculous. However, there are very few gibson's that blow my skirt up anyway.

Kinda my point was the SoCal is one of the ugliest guitars, in my opinion, so this one isn't too bad.

This is what the vibe kind of reminds me of, only the fender seems more Gibsony, and the Gibson seems more Japanese inspired. But I think its trying for the same sort of 'modified-to-someone-else's-retro' kind of vibe
Put the kind of pickguard the Fender has on that Gibby, and it would look great. Not sure $2K great. But would be sweet.
