Hi all,

I am thinking of changing from .009 gauge to .010 gauge strings on my 1999 American Standard Stratocaster. I purchased the guitar new and it was set up from the factory for .009s. I have since started playing 1/2 a step down tuned and had to adjust the bridge to compensate for the loss of string tension. I now want to give .010 gauge strings a try, but still wish to remain 1/2 a step down tuned. Do you think this change will require the adjustment of the truss rod, or a simple adjustment of the bridge again?

Thanks for any advice,

Russ :)

Any time you do a change in string gauge you should do a COMPLETE SETUP.

for a small change like that, you might not need to adjust your truss rod. You most definately need to adjust your bridge.

But, as is stated above, a complete set up would be ideal, and would give you the best play out of your guitar.

Being as though it was set for 9's in concert pitch using 10's to Eb shouldnt make a whole heap of difference. It's always worth a check up though. The bridge will need re-setting again too.
