However, if it plays it's probably worth $200. That's more than a Squire Affinity but less than a regular Squire. If you're happy with it as something to play, then that's ok.

I do like the way it plays, but there are certain things I hate. I dropped the strings down closer to the fretboard and 2 of the strings are hitting the first fret and muffling the sound. I raised them back up and 2 different strings did the same thing. Is there a way you can file the fret down and keep this from happening or what?

There is but its a longwinded process that can leave the guitar unplayable if not done properly. Basicaly you set the fingerboard/neck flat then run a straightedge over the frets to find which ones bad then file it to the same height as the others. After that re-shape the top (crown) and polish.

Far better left to someone who does that stuff for a living.

or buy a bunch of el cheapo guitars, and practice your tail off. Niki's right, its a big job, and easy to screw up, and expensive to fix if you do.
