Hey, I've got a fat strat and I want to either customize or buy a new pickguard. If I paint it myself, is there a paint anyone knows of that wont scratch off? I want a blue pickguard to match the guitar, but not the shiny blue that I've seen around. I want a nice flat blue, or even a flat dark green.

Hey, Welcome!

You are better off buying a clear acrylic pickguard and painting it from underneath.

if your painting on top of a regular acrylic pickguard first apply a spray basecoat (for optimum colour finish) then either brush or spray acrylic paint, after you do 2 or 3 coats letting them fully dry in between, pick-up a spray acrylic sealer in either gloss, matte, or clear and put on a coat or two of that and you'll be good for a while, when you do get some wear it'll be character wear which is cool:)
i did this to the pickguard of my yamaha slg100s which is kinda funky but i figured it was diff haha
i'll try and post some pics i just need to get my cam off my old lady!

If you google custom pickguards you'll find tons of shops that will make anything you want. One is www.qparts.com they have knobs and pickguards etc. Some nice stuff out there and not to costly. Google is you friend!!
