I have a question that I hope you guys can help me with. I just picked up a MIM sage green strat (01) with a maple fretboard near mint this weekend. I also have a black strat (95) with rosewood fretboard. I am needing to sale the black one but I am having a hard time parting with the neck - I love the way it feels and it has aged to a nice vintage yellow. Is it wrong to switch necks and mix up the SNs or should I just suck it up and leave the guitars alone. Thanks

It would be better for you to keep the neck but, the buyer is not getting what he thinks he is. Maybe, be truthful and tell the buyer what you want to do. They may not care and plan on modding the guitar anyway. I believe in the truth (Karma!) and I also like original equipment! Your decision though. :)

do you need to sell the black 95 to pay for the newby? if so are you just going to swap necks or buy a new neck if the 95 is mim than it shouldn't decrease the value much. but if you can just keep the black strat nothing wrong with multiple strats i have 8 of them
just make sure to state the fact of the non stock neck if you do it

I would tell the buyer. I just didn't know how much that would decrease the value of both guitars.

if you have to sell keep the neck that feels like home and sell the other as is and tell the buyer of the swap since they are both mim it should be fine mims don't hold the stock value that a mia does. so if it was me id keep the neck i like the best
ps what is it about the neck you like?

It just feels better then the maple. Smoother, easier to play, feels better in my hand - probably all in my head. lI also like that it looks yellow and vintage.

The body only has some scratches on the back. One 1/4 inch scratch on the front. Nothing that goes to the wood. Could be buffed out. for a 14 year old guitar it is in real good shape.

if i hadn't just bought a mia id give you 275 for it so i think you should be good to get 260
so id say if you really dig that neck do the swap she isn't going to lose that much value since your putting a newer mim neck on her just make sure to tell the buyer and the buyer should be happy to get a nice strat for a good price

The one problem your going to have is that a 14 year old body and new neck with new serial number is going to look odd. I'd be truthfull.

Why not just sell the new strat if the old one plays so nice. Use the money to update the trem and tuners as thats about the only difference.
I know what you mean about older necks playing better, its because its worn in to your hand.

Quite!

Pickinlittle, what I'm missing here is why do you have to sell the old black Strat that plays so well? Are you not allowed two? If not, why did you buy the new one?

Given that you don't like the neck so much, is there anything about the new Strat that you do prefer? Pickups, bridge?

So buy new pickups and bride for the old guitar that plays better...

Sorted!

Cheers - C
