Like niki said if you tape the tube you should here a thump sound like tapping on a mic if you here cracking or feedback then its the tube. I tap them with something a litte heavier the chop sticks though, I use an Elementary school fatboy pencil eraser you no the big ones kids use in first grade.
A good tube tapping tool!

Then it is the tube, when I tap it, it crackles and pops, the same noise that I first heard, only worse. So it is the tube??

It should sound like you are tapping your finger on a microphone.
Tap! Thump! Tap! Thump! No crakling if it is the tube, Its a shame with the amp not being that old. I have seen tubes in use older then me. I just hope there is no underlying reason.

Certain notes can trigger a microphonic tube without a doubt. They can rattle at certain frequencies too. Volume pots going bad isn't as common as a bad tube. Trust me , I've been using tube amps exclusively for over 40 years and have never replaced a volume pot and some of my amps are over 30 years old.

Yeah but valves causing intermittent sound? Then after a bang on the side of the amp it works for a bit?

Either way its 1 year guarantee isnt up, i dont know why he's worrying. Even the much mercenary marshall fix amps within a year of them being released and ask for no recipt of purchase.

Yep they can. I agree. It's under warranty, just get it fixed. Thhey sure don't make stuff like they used to. My 74 Champ never saw the inside of a repair shop and I use it 2-4 times a week. it's still quiet as a mouse.

Much better back then because of all the digital voicing effects be added can make such a problem in identifying things on these new ones much more difficult. Give me only tube amps with a vol, bass, mid, treb, reverb and maybe soak control.

Me too. I hope to build a 5e3 Tweed Deluxe clone before the end of the year.
I want something old with new parts if you get my drift. Hand wired by me.

Point to point old style. I don't like the combining the new voicing tech to the old school tube technology to me there not true tube amps.

If you're going to perform percussive maintenance, then get a bigger hammer.

Update. I gave the tubes to my father who has all the tools to check and fix them (his hobby is restoring old tube radios). He said there definitely is something wrong with the power tube, I dont know what, he left a voice mail telling me. So I'll order a replacement, which sucks because the Electro-Harminox are the cheapest, and they're $22.00. I guess he says there are radio flee markets in the spring and summer, where I can pick up pre-amp tubes for $3, and power amp tubes for $6. So I'll be stocking up on them. I got this amp as a floor model a few months back as a low volume practice amp, the Princeton Reverb has to be played too loud for the sweet spot. On another note, I picked up a Egnater 20 Rebel, which is the most versitile all tube amp ive played. It runs from 1- 20 watts, and has a power grid that allows you to choose, so I can turn it down to 3 watts, and crank it and it gives you a good tone without having to blow the walls out. And it has both 6V6, and EL84 power tubes, so you can go from American to British, which Ive seen in other amps, but on the ones I say you can only play either or, this one you can blend. Unfortunately, I loaned it out, and my Prinecton is at my friends place in Boston, who's gone away for the next 6 weeks, so you can see my frustration, nothing to plug into....
