so is it true that its bad to tune to std tuning with 12s is it really that bad on the neck. Ive got here tune a 1/2 step down because when i tuned her to std my bridge started to lift. now I'm good at setting up my own guitars and have done set ups often with 10s and 11s with great results so my ? is if i tune my strat with the 12 gauge strings to std and set it up for the 12s will i t hurt my neck i plan on using 5 springs

In short, no. I use 11's, a friend has 13's. As long as its set up proper, you shouldn't have any problems at all. Worst case, you'll have to adjust the truss rod more often, which should be done as soon as you put the heavier strings on it.

Yeah, it's ok, you'll just need to check your trussrod more often than usual. SRV used 12's live and 13's in the studio and that was on older necks where the trussrod wasn't like they are today.

I personally like the tone of heavier strings. Much fuller.

Stevie used 15's for a long time then changed to 13's.

Do a COMPLETE SETUP on your guitar and it will be fine.

I used to use 12's or 13's on all my guitars for the great tone. Then I started having problems with my hands (not related to using heavy strings). Now I make up my own sets of 9's or 10's using Flatwounds to get the tone.

Yeah. He was in the studio one time and split one of his finger tips open, so he got out a razor blade and cut a callus off of his foot, cut it down to size and super glued it to the split finger tip. Then finished the session.
