Hi everyone just wondering if there is a sure fire way to find out if frets need grounding or they have to be replaced. I have a 96 american strat the 3 fret 4, 5 6 7 on the g, b and high e strings have got some pretty deep wear on them, I was told the case can cause this? anyway it's starting to effect the sound, and with the price of refretting I'm wondering if it would be cheaper to buy a replacement neck. thanks

Depending on how much wear there is will determine if you need new frets or if you can get by with just a fret job. Can you just barely see dents? If so, a fret job should be all you need. If they look really deep then you'll most likely need new frets. Whichever it needs, it'll still be cheaper than a new neck.

I have alot of wear on mine, their dented up pretty good and getting really rubbed down, their too far gone for a fret dressing, but I still play the hell out of it with no problems believe it or not. Whenever they start causing me problems, then I'll have some new ones put on.

Never heard of a case giving a guitar bad frets, it sounds unlikely.
