Frankly, if it is in, "ready to ship" status for literally a week, it leads me to believe that they don't have it in stock. It certainly doesn't take a week for something that's 'ready to ship' to ship. I'm presuming they posted that in the hopes of pacifying you so they don't lose the sale. If it were me, I'd call them immediately.

That, and they compete with the MIA's in quality and tone!

I can't say that I totally agree with you....
For about 10 years I owned a wonderful MIM (midnite wine/rosewood) that I loved. No doubt a great axe. Set up perfectly and loved it to death. I was not in a position to afford to think about a MIA at the time, and I avoided even playing one in shops over the years because I was afraid of what might happen. I finally gave in and tried one out.
To make a long story short, within a month I sold a couple guitars and an amp I had and brought it home (sienna burst/maple). It is now my #1, and I have to say there is no comparison as far as playability and tone. I agree there is also a big difference in price...not always an option as far as affordability. But once you own one, it is a keeper for life and it's value will only increase.

That being said, I think the MIMs are great guitars and I'm sure it will be the beginning of a long relationship with ilia and the Fender family.

I absolutely love my MIM Standard Strat. I have a MIM Tele and I have to say the quality has taken leaps forward from '95 to '07. My Tele's nice, but it's a bit rough and the electronics and hardware are cheap. My Strat is incredible, the neck is as nice or nicer than any other guitar I've played, and it sounds great. I can hear the difference between the Tele and the Strat (and it's not just the difference in model).

Plus, the MIM is good for modding because you don't feel guilty tearing apart a $1,000 guitar.

I have a 93 mim strat that imo plays better than some american made ones. I drop SCN noiseless pups in her and she it top dog up until a month ago and my YJM arrived. However, mim are nice fiddles. Good base for upgrading.

I have a MIM Standard strat, its a nice guitar, comfortable neck... changing the pickups would be an option in the future but for now I am satisfied with the stock pickups. great guitar!

I had bad fretwork on my baja tele and if i remember correctly my 95 (it would of been sorted a long time ago). Still i adore my 95, in a lot of ways with the mods i've done to it (that i wouldnt do to my MIA's) and the hours upon hours of wear its had, its my ultimate guitar. It didnt come out the box that way though. Like Cvilleira said you need to be carefull when picking one (like you do with anything) a bad one can turn up.

I've posted this picture a number of times (ask Nikininja!). These are 120 Standard Strat body blanks waiting to be cut and routed in Ensenada (in 7/06 as noted on the paper). These are of lesser quality than the bodies used in MIA Strats (and higher end MIM Strats for that matter). QED.

Yes O.O has and it still horrifies me every time i look at it.

That said in light of recent discussion about woods not making too much difference on guitar tone then how much would multi piece bodies make compared to the standard 3 piece.

I'm now removing myself from this thread,
like those make ant to know. :oops
{edit} re thought argument to keep the peace

Could you explain that picture? What makes it lower quality, specifically?

up to 6 pieces of wood glued together with a veneer ontop, as opposed to 2 or 3 piece bodies.

I think the MIM Strats and Teles are just about the best value out there. Yes, the MIAs are better instruments, but they do cost twice as much! Are they twice as good as the MIMs? I can't say that they are...For lots of cost-conscious players, MIMs are a great bang for the buck!
