Well, since you posted this in the Strat area, I presume you want to build a Strat-like guitar?

Why not try thinking outside the box and go into the forest and find a nice chunk of premium ash or alder and route it yourself?

Hi nicholsoni: in addition to those mentioned, WD Music (wdmusic.com or .co.uk, depending where you are) do nice bodies and necks, which I'm told they make themselves. I have used a couple of their necks and found them very good quality, though not the cheapest.

Stewart-MacDonald sell bodies and necks too. However, their necks are made by Mighty Mite (already mentioned) so I wonder if that's where their bodies come from too.

There's several others out there too: have a bit of a Google...

Personally, I favor Miami Mike's forestry idea - here's some nice bits of ash:

that just really depends on what you want to put into it...

I've built some premo strats for $400, with stuff from GFS and what not

or some strat running a couple grand for grade A fender parts

you can make it what you want with what you want to spend. if that made any sense.

Warmoth, Allparts, Mighty Mite, Guitarfetish, Guitarpartsdepot, Pickers parts, WD Music, Elderly,
See what you can find. You can't really build a Strat from aftermarket parts cheaper than you can buy a used MIM Strat. Case in point; today I was at my favorite local pawn shop. He had a bone stock 2004 Fender Strat Standard MIM tagged at $239, but would sell to me for $180 + tax. It is in very good condition too. You can't assemble one from new or even used parts that cheap. And if you can, it is from parts you probably have on hand already.
I am not saying that a MIM neck is as nice as a Warmoth or Allparts neck, but it all depends on how much you want to spend.

Right now I think I can get exactly what I want, and I've spent a lot of time and money trying and thinking about it, for about $1000. That is priced up for the most part through Warmoth.

Thats the body, paint, neck, machine heads, and pickups. I figure the rest of the stuff I can give or take a bit with. Plus I want a hardtail so the bridge will be a wee cheaper.
