The Big Headstock Stratocaster only looks cool in Jimi's hands.
I once owned a Voodoo Strat (righthanded body & lefthanded neck with
big headstock) looked cool too.

I have the same strat. It's what turned me on to big headstocks in the first place. Can't beat the right handed body with the left handed big headstock. Looks pretty cool in my opinion.

That big hunk of wood throws off the beautiful balance of the Strat.
It's only my opinion, but I think the big headstock was just a wrong turn
on the road to guitar nirvana.

Everybody are entitled to their on opinion, but not every opinion is represented. I might even agree about the big headstock looking not balanced but that what makes it so appealing and so rock n roll.

Think about it - there are 50 current strat models. Out of them only 5 with big headstocks. I can hardly differentiate between most models and someone wrote in a different thread that signature models to his eyes is sometimes the same standard guitar with the signature and minimal changes... To me, the difference between many other models is too minor.

I would like to see new designs but mostly I would love to see more Fenders with that huge headstock and curly Fender Stratocaster logo on it - coming on a 12" radius with medium jumbo frets - that should be really cool (there's no such model right now).

I love them both!! I used to hate CBS headstocks, but then I bought my Squier (first electric I ever bought) and that changed when I saw how it looked while being played.

The pre-CBS strat headstock though, is IMO, the best headstock shape EVER! It's just perfect!

the big headstock is alright, but CBS compromised the original design by changing the 4 bolt neck to a 3. but... jimi did shred plenty with a CBS strat.

For looks, I like the classic headstock because it's graceful and elegant. Didn't stop me from getting the Highway One, because it's got the same classic and beautiful shape and script, just supersized. Customshop Pro gets the big headstock. I read somewhere around here - probably around the Highway One area - that the mass of the big hunk of wood for the bigger headstock together with a more steel around the bridge should help sustain in the upgraded Highway One. I've never compared back-to-back, but I can tell you I play a lot of blues that's heavy with sustain and vibrato on the sustain, because I play BB a lot, and the current '06 forward Highway One has tremendous sustain and great vibrato. It's a tremendous musical instrument. Same time, I can't believe it's one up on the Clapton with the classic headstock. A lot of things go into things like sustain and the bigger headstock may be one way, not too expensive, to amp up the sustain, if you can get over the grief of not having that elegant classic headstock.
