Blues You Can Use is more than just penatonic scales.

From what I've seen out of about 1/2 dozen books, most of these books center on 12 bar progressions in different styles. They usually walk you through the chord progression pattern, then go through some different styles, rhythms and turnarounds.

I don't think you will be lost if you already know those things above. I have More BYCU, but I haven't jumped into it yet.

BYCU has a lot of great riffs and turnarounds that I still play.

But to answer your question really depends on what your goal is. Do you just want to play songs and riffs? Are you looking into Blues theory? Are you looking to expand your knowledge of different blues style? Are you looking to be able to play an hour long ad-hoc solo?

There's just sooooo many things to get into (all still w/in the Blues) it really just depends. This is actually my problem. I feel like I have ADD because I just want to learn it all.

If you have any friends who play the blues, I would recommend you to start jamming with him/them! I started a "band" with 3 of my friends. And I must say, I have learned ALOT since we started out at the end of july '08. I can play alot faster now, and I have more "feel" in my playing.

You, sir, are awesome! :)
Great post!

I bought my strat in '97 because of SRV.
Except that I gave up learning SRV because it was too hard!

I think Johnny Lang's "Lie to me" album is what I learned on from the VERY beginning. After a couple years I was finally able to takle SRV!

Re: the topic: I have no idea because I learned by ear with no instruction (a very painful and loooong process)!

Another Hal Leonard DVD in the signature licks series "SRV greatest hits"with greg koch as instuctor

Just wondering if anybody knows of any really good, intermediate to advanced Blues Guitar Instruction programs. I take lessons every week with an instructor but I was also looking for something to work on, on my own at home. I am looking for something a little more advanced because I know the pentatonic and blues scales and I don't need somebody going through those again. I have heard of Stevie Snacks and Justin Guitar and they seem really good. Has anybody tried Stevie Snacks? I had the Blues Guitar Secrets and went through that already but it seemed more of a beginner course.

Any advice?
Thanks

My advice is to get some Freddie King music and try to learn some of the riffs that he plays. It's great ear training and he's one of the best blues guitarists ever! 8)

Another + on BYCU. I also have More BYCU, but haven't looked into it yet. I bought both at the same time on several recommendations from other forums. And yes, it's a lot more than 12 bar progressions and pentatonics.

Justin Sandercoe's site is another I check often (gotta remember to send him some money!), and Arlen Roth has some real good stuff on Gibby's site, and you can print out the sheet music of what his lesson covers. Cool.

I'm also going through the Learn and Master Guitar course, and they're about to release a supplemental Learn and Master Blues Guitar in the very near future. Rumor has it you'll need to have a basic understanding of scales, pentatonics, some theory, etc. so it's not a beginner course, if you will. No idea of cost, content, etc. I have no interest in the company other than being a very satisfied customer, who among many others is anxiously awaiting the release of the course. Google 'em if you want more info.

Are there tabs written out in More Blues You Can Use? I think I am going to purchase MBYCU. Thanks for the opinions guys. I have bought some of Stevie Snacks lessons and also Blues With Brains.
