Lomitus, my word counter says that's 812 words. Surely that's more than two cents worth?

Ha - of course! That explains the two screw holes behind the bridge, in conjunction with those for a locking mechanism on the headstock.

Good thinking, firstrat.

Cheers - C

Thanks Ceri, not much thinking involved though, just an observation. It came to me as soon as I viewed the picture. I first thought FR locking, then realized that the trem cavity was not routed for a floyd, then kahler popped into my head. Someone made that guitar into a metal-o-caster

not that there is anything wrong with that

Yeah: I noticed the removed locking mechanism on the headstock, and I also (above) commented on the two screw holes behind the bridge. But unlike you I completely failed to imagine the link between the two!!

I shall now go and solemnly slap my own face...

You certainly are! My side of the Atlantic the saying is, "Just my ha'p'th worth" (meaning half penny).

At today's exchange rate that works out at 0.73 cents. Your thoughts are clearly much more valuable!!

Thanks for the replies everyone.

So I managed to trade this guitar for a 2001 Martin D16 GT acoustic.

Pretty sweet deal I think.

Now there is another comment I just have to make here. I think it's very ironic that a lot of folks (myself included) won't think twice about modifying a "new" guitar. Change the pickups, change the trem/block, whatever you need to do to make the guitar "yours" and more playable to you. However the moment you talk about modifying a vintage instrument people get all bent out of shape over "value". The funny thing is that new guitar you just altered could still be around in 30 or 40 years and someday someone is going to scream "Who was the idiot that did this? They destroyed the value of this historical piece!". Again here the difference is simply that of a guitar player and that of a collector...it's two -very- different mentalities.

And in the case of my Les Paul--if it hadn't been modified, I'd have had to pay more for it--and I love it.

My Mustang, meanwhile is completely stock--except I reversed the volume & tone knobs--not the controls--just the knobs.
