I'm in possession of the world homeliest Strat. 78' according to the serial number, got it from a pawn about 15 years ago, been repainted a long time ago, even an ex-dog chewed the headstock a bit-I'm talking homely. Heck, it may be a Fender neck on a knock off body for all I know, but it plays like buttah, and since I only play for my own amusement, who cares about the "character flaws."

Long way to get too the point but, lately I've been trying some Garageband recording the requires me to plug into a pre-amp and the pickup noise is just defeaning (especially with any virtual effects turned on.) Not much better with a mic'd amp.

I'm seeking advice on changing to noiseless pickups. I'm sure this has been covered well-links to previous posts would be great.

Thanks.

JB

Yeah, you really wanna do a search of this forum for this question...you'll get a lot.

Folks are going to know what style of music you like to play and what sort of sound you want to be able to offer anything meaningful.

That said, count me as one HUGE fan of the Dimarzio Area pickups for great vintage alnico sound with the advantage of humbucking. These things are just fine near my computer. Same as the Seymour Duncan full size humbuckers in my other guitar.

I bought my Area pickups as a pre-wired pickguard from Musician's Fiend, and was very satisfied with Dimarzio's choice of pots and capaciters. The middle pickup (an Area 67), gets used a LOT, where before the middle pickup tended to be the "forgotten" pickup unless mixed with bridge or neck pickups for quack.
