To quote Chet, "You have to bond with it". Most important factor in my opinion. I don't know which brand it will be yet (so not necessary a Fender product), much less wich model/color/options/features it will have. I think it will come to two elements in the end; the sound it produces and the feeling in my hands while I play it. In the meantime, I go to guitar centers and try as much guitars as I can. I bought a book about guitar care/adjusting to gain more knowledge about what I want. I hang around in forums like here to learn from more experienced people. But in the end you know that you have to bond with it. Good luck guys. 8)
Claude.

Hello Kivizu,

Well I'm happy with my '62 hotrod.
Great pickups and comfy neck.

But If I were to have the Custom shop
put one together for me I would change
to a ebony Fretboard & paint it green.

Cheers.

I have to bond with the weight, feel, and playability of the guitar.
After that the tone, then the looks. I might go through several looks, pickups, wirings before I settle on what is perfect that guitar.

So, Mine changes from guitar to guitar.

I have a purple Strat, but with a rosewood board. It's a Squier though. But still, it looks sharp.

A Fender Custom Shop 60s or 50s Strat with a rosewood board and a fiesta red finish would be my dream Strat.

Not to long ago, I saw a 1958 blonde Strat with a maple neck at Maverick Music. It was in a 9.5 condition, totally original with even the case goodies and I believe 2 sets of Fender strings from the 50's. The original case was also in mint state. Appearently someone bought it , played it a few times and then stuck it under the bed. I think the owner died and his wife sold it to Maverick Music. They never printed what the selling price was... probably close to $100,000 !!!!! Perhaps if Obama can speed up my stimulus check .............

There are 3 that I have in mind, although the concepts are, somewhat, already being done by other manufacturers. That said, here are my 3 Strat ideals...starting from the typical Stratocaster body, neck and tremolo system:

1) single P90 pickup, at the bridge; one control each for volume and tone, and a 3-way Tele switch wired a la Esquire.

2) three P90 pickups; everything else typical Strat.

3) three Lipstick pickups; replace the 5-way switch with 3 DPST on/off switches, and wired to allow all 3 pickups to be used at the same time, or the bridge and neck pickups.

Matt
