HELP!!!! My Strats Maple Fretboard finish is coming off around the edges around the 12th fret. I want to fix this somehow but again this is a maple fretboard. This Is A really important guitar to me. I can feel some of the wood grain around where this finish is coming off. I need a way of refinishing this but not sanding the whole fret board off if possible i am worried that the fretboard will become to worn out to play

The original neck for my strat is chewed up along the bottom edge from my pinky fingernail (which I used to not use while soloing- so it was randomly running into the fingerboard as I learned on that guitar).

There are some people (EVH perhaps?) who don't like having any finish on their maple necks - they like the feel of the wood. So your guitar is not going to self-destruct or anything, BUT completely unfinished necks are prone to moisture damage, possibly warping, from humidity.

Just take it to a person who paints guitar finishes and have them apply some satin finish to the neck, after smoothing the edge of the missing finish out in preparation with some very fine sand paper (probably 400 grit at the coarsest)- consult a guitar finisher and do what they say.

I removed all the finish off the back of my neck on my 62 RI. I just put some Dutch oil on it once a month. It feels so much better that way.

Keep it the way it is. It takes more trouble to refinish it. Besides, it gives it more personality.

The neck of my '73 doesn't have any finish on the back and spots on the fingerboard are down to bare wood. Personally I love the feel of it; a lot slicker.

Hi, I would also leave it like that since that is a natural thing :)
