Ok i have some questions and please bare with me as im i know some of Fender guitar's history but cannot identify models on sight just yet.

Im interested in getting a mexi Stratocaster and was wondering does a 50s or 60s re issue come in mim versions? Is there any real price difference?

Which one has the bigger headstock? I saw this strat on craigslist for sale and it looks pretty cool and wondering how can i prevent fraud with fenders i mean what if someone takes a squire body and puts on a Fender neck is it obvious?

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Here is the guitar i was considering. http://nh.craigslist.org/msg/1092078286.html

that is a very fine strat for a real deal! they do indeed make mim 50s and 60s. they are called the classic and classic player series. see their pages here:

classic:
http://www.fender.com/products//search. ... at=classic

Classic Players:

http://www.fender.com/products//search. ... ssicplayer

^there are Fender Custom Shop Designed models made in mexico.
they have all the fancy stuff featured on FCS's stuff like american hardware and Custom Shop 69 pickups on the 60s strat.

If I were you, I'd snatch that puppy up!

if you're suspicious about squier body/fender neck, take a picture of it and post it here. get familiar by going to a real shop and checking out all the different styles. if there's no serial number anywhere (front/back of headstock or on the heel of the neck or neckplate) i would think it's a fraud.

if the font looks $@!&#* on the headstock decal, or you can feel the label over the wood (it should be under the finish of the neck unless stamped like some squiers), it may also be a fraud.

best thing to do is take a pic of it (if you have the time), and post it up here, or at best, just compare it to pics online (say fender.com or musiciansfriend or harmonycentral).

if you feel like the price is too low (keep in mind, mim RI's typically go for $600-900 today so a $350 62RI would be a helluva find), just ask where they got it from. if you don't feel comfortable, or you're getting the whole story, don't do it! there's no one of a kind strat, so you'll be able to find another one.

if you have a friend who knows about guitars, have them go with you. don't get had!

good luck.

Thx alot, the guitar looks legti and is a real beauty. I like the off color too, i just wasnt sure with the way they look. i guess its the 70s strat that has the big headstock but it seems like a nice one and i like the color.

in Rhode island those mim strats usually sell for 300 used so im guessing the special abit more.

i have some studying to do but i thank ya for the links and advice :)

well, only like 50-100 more. if you have the cash, I'd go for the 60s classic player strat. great tone!

Looks like a yummy guitar and very attractive at that price. Of course you can only tell by playing it, but I wouldn't drag my feet too long on buying that guitar if I was interested.
